Riley’s progress – his paw in pictures

Squeamish alert: this page contains photos of Riley’s paw as it heals. It contains some pretty graphic details.

We’ve taken photos of Riley’s recovery at various stages.  The slideshow starts with Riley’s first day at the vet with ARF on November 19.  It’s been a quick recovery. We definitely weren’t expecting it to be this short!

Best of luck with your dog! My one recommendation would be to immobilize the dog for as long as possible (if that’s what your vet recommends.) We were really careful to ensure Riley didn’t use his paw for a long time. It was hard to do since he’s a young guy with lots of energy, but it really helped the healing process.

We tried everything to get Riley to stop chewing at his bandages (cones on his head, bitter apple, etc.) What finally worked for us was an old sock with two drops of tabasco sauce on the toe. We would put it on over top of his bandages and he wouldn’t touch it.
